Last gasp winner for Drogheda United

A last gasp winner from Gavin Brennan earned Drogheda United a fifth victory on the spin as they beat Shelbourne 2-1 in a thrilling game at Tolka Park.

The win moves Drogheda to within three points of league leaders Sligo Rovers who play Cork City on Sunday evening.

Brennan won it in the 93rd minute when his cross shot from the left dipped in at the far upright to go into the net off the butt of the post.

Cathal Brady had given Drogheda a 12th minute lead when he followed up to shoot home after Shels' keeper Chris Bennion couldn't hold Declan O'Brien's free-kick.

Shels battled back in the second half and substitute Conan Byrne levelled with a stunning finish from outside the area on 74 minutes.

Champions Shamrock Rovers' troubled season continued as they were held to a 0-0 draw by lowly Bray Wanderers at Tallaght Stadium

Despite plenty of possession, Rovers struggled to create chances and it was Bray's Jason Byrne who twice came close before the home side found their range, but Gary McCabe's 79th minute shot rattled the crossbar.

Chris Shields led by example as the Dundalk captain hit a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Derry City at Oriel Park.

David McDaid broke the deadlock to give Derry the lead on 73 minutes when getting on the end of Stephen McLaughlin's cross to beat Peter Cherrie on his 100th league appearance for the Lilywhites.

But Shields earned Dundalk a deserved point five minutes from time. A succession of corners finally paid off as Mark Griffin found Shields who headed home.Home
