Wallace seeks public inquiry instead of apology

Mick Wallace said that he does not want an apology from the Justice Minister - but he wants a public inquiry into the matter.

Minister Alan Shatter told the Dáil that he was willing to apologise to the Independent TD if he felt aggrieved about the revelation that Deputy Wallace had avoided penalty points for getting caught driving while on a mobile phone.

Minister Shatter said he had heard about the incident from the Garda Commissioner - but Mick Wallace said there are still questions to be answered.

"I wasn't looking for an apology I'm looking for the truth," he said.

"There is huge gaps in the Ministers story still, there is huge gaps in the internal review and we aren't going to get the truth until we have an independent public inquiry."
