A mother of two and a man found shot dead in Roscommon are suspected of having committed suicide, police sources said.
Gardaí are not looking for anybody else in connection with the deaths in the village of Cloonfad. The victims were found in separate cars overnight.
Just after midnight, the man, 44, from Co Tipperary was found in a silver Volkswagen Passat in the carpark of the local national school at Cloonfad, which borders Co Mayo and Co Galway.
Shortly after at 1.30am, a woman, 30, was discovered dead in another silver Volkswagen Passat – parked a short distance away at Springvale, gardaí said.
Both shootings may have happened hours before the bodies were discovered. The woman was a mother-of-two, who was originally from Cloonfad.
The bodies were taken to Galway University Hospital this afternoon following a technical examination at the scene of both shootings.
A post mortem examination was due to be carried out by state pathologist Prof. Marie Cassidy at the hospital today.
