RSA urge motorists to take care
Road safety officials are appealing to motorists to take extreme care today, with severe weather conditions forecast.
Up to 50mm of rain will fall in parts, while winds of up to 110km/h have been predicted for some areas of the country.
Cork, Waterford and Kerry are expected to bear the brunt of the storm but the rain and wind will move northwards across the country later on.
Brian Farrell is the Communications Manager with the Road Safety Authority and he says people need to keep their wits about them today: "Debris on the roads is a problem so we have to watch out and expect the unexpected.
"Broken branches, falling trees, wheelie bins falling on the road…we need to be aware of these things falling on the road."
