Power failure at Dáil meeting as campaigner complains about Eirgrid

Plans for the Spring Statement were interrupted slightly when the electricity was cut off in Leinster House today.

Generators have been turned on to supply backup power after a disconnection left the entire complex without electricity.

Ironically, the power cut came in the middle of a committee meeting about the North-South interconnector.

The power failure came just as one campaigner from Monaghan told the committee that Eirgrid were not replying to complaints - and the assembled officials certainly saw the funny side.

"I've got no written reply to date, almost two years later" she said.

"Eirgrid...." Laughter than followed in the chamber when the lights when out.

One member even commented: "I wonder is there a message in this?".

"They're at it again," she replied.
