Noonan 'quite happy' ECB will okay promissory-note deal

The Finance Minister Michael Noonan has said he does not believe there is any dissent or concern in the European Central Bank over the Irish promissory-note deal.

The ECB President Mario Draghi told MEPs yesterday that the bank will pass judgement on the legality of the Anglo Irish Bank deal later this year.

However Michael Noonan said the Government would not have signed the Anglo agreement unless they had strong legal advice that it was legally sound.

"I spent most of Friday with Mario Draghi at the G20 (talks) in Moscow and I'd be quite happy that we won't have a difficulty," he said.

"People are always threatening legal action...but I'm quite happy with where we are at present. I think it was a very good deal."
