Sixty new jobs have been created at a new 24-hour McDonald's restaurant on Dublin's southside.

Some €2m has been pumped into the fast food eatery based in The Park, Carrickmines near the M50.

Rugby star Dave Kearney was on hand to officially open the new restaurant this afternoon.

This latest opening is part of the food-chain's major plans to create 700 new jobs and open 12 new restaurants across the country by the end of next year.

“We’ve great confidence in where Ireland is going,” said James Perry, the owner of the restaurant.

“I think that things are starting to look brighter, there’s definitely a change in the confidence, and we want to be part of that growth.”

There are now 85 McDonald’s restaurants in operation nationwide.

The company claims to be the third largest multinational employer in Ireland with more than 4,500 employees.
