A woman and her six-year-old son have died in a house fire in Navan, Co Meath.

A woman and her six-year-old son have died in a house fire in Navan, Co Meath.

Gardaí are investigating a fatal fire at Canterbrook, Trim Road, Navan, which was discovered at 1pm today.

Gardaí and fire services were alerted and on searching the house discovered the bodies of a 28-year-old woman and her six-year-old son in an upstairs bedroom.

There was nobody else in the house at the time. The bodies have been removed for post mortem to Navan Hospital.

At this stage in the investigation Gardaí believe the fire began accidentally.
