Lenders have moved to reassure customers that they are taking concrete steps to deal with the mortgage arrears crisis, with both Bank of Ireland and Permanent TSB issuing statements to that effect today.

The statements follow a meeting yesterday between Irish bank officials and senior Government figures ahead of Friday's Personal Insolvency Bill publication, and comes against a backdrop of Central Bank pressure on banks to overhaul their procedures for dealing with customers in arrears.
