Missing boys located safe and well after boat capsizes

A search and rescue operation has been stood down, after two 12-year-old boys, feared missing in a river in Co Limerick, were found safe and well.

The friends are understood to have taken a small boat out on the River Shannon near the village of Castleconnell at around 3pm.

The alarm was raised when the pair could not be found.

Units from Limerick Marine Search and Rescue service were mobilised to the scene and commenced water and land based searches of the area.

Soon after arriving at the scene, the chopper crew spotted the two boys walking across fields towards Castleconnell.

It is thought their boat capsized and that they safely made it ashore without assistance.
