Academics to debate God and science

The age-old battle between religion and science will be played out today in a debate involving leading academics in Dublin.

The Christians in Science Ireland organisation is organising a one-day conference at the National University of Ireland in Maynooth.

The conference will debate the topic of “God and Science”, with speakers including Oxford professor of historical theology Alister McGrath and Cambridge University’s Dr Denis Alexander, director of the Faraday Institute of Science and Religion.

Professor McGrath said: “The forthcoming Christians in Science conference at Maynooth marks a major step in the re-establishment of positive and collaborative spirit between science and religion, two of the greatest and most important cultural forces in modern Ireland.”
