Man, 29, arrested following discovery of body in Swords earlier today

Update: A 29-year-old man has been arrested over the murder of a middle-aged man who was attacked on a street.

Garda said the victim, aged 56, was discovered with serious injuries on North Street in Swords, Co Dublin at about 3.05am.

Despite the efforts of emergency services and paramedics he died at the scene.

Gardai said the arrested man was 29 and was detained in Dublin before being taken to Swords for questioning.

Forensic and technical examinations were carried out in the area where the dead man was found at steps leading to the back of the Fingal Community College.

North Street was closed for several hours from the junction with Seatown Road to the Carnegie Court apartments.

Gardai appealed for witnesses who may have been in or around North Street between 1.30am and 3am or anyone with dash cam footage of the road at those times.

Darragh O’Brien, Fianna Fail TD for Dublin Fingal, said his thoughts and prayers were with the family and friends of the victim.

"This is a very tragic incident, and while the full details of what happened aren’t yet known, we all need to look after our friends on nights out," he said.

Update:  A post-mortem is due to be carried out tomorrow on the body of a man who died in the Swords area of Dublin early today.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was seriously assaulted in the early hours of the morning on North Street and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with any information is being asked to contact Gardaí.

Earlier: A man has died after being found with serious injuries on a street in Swords, Co Dublin last night.

Gardaí were at the scene in North Street at around 3.05am last night. The man was attended to by medical personnel, but was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased male, believed to be in his 30s, remains at the scene, which has been preserved for an examination.

The road has been closed from the junction of North Street/Seatown Road to North Street/Entrance to Carnegie Court Apartments.
