Jobs announcement expected after SSE confirms €500m energy spend

The Taoiseach is expected to make a jobs announcement later today, after British energy giant SSE confirmed it is spending €500m buying and investing in electricity plants in Ireland.

The Taoiseach is expected to make a jobs announcement later today, after British energy giant SSE confirmed it is spending €500m buying and investing in electricity plants in Ireland.

SSE is buying power stations owned by Spanish company Endesa for €320m.

The company is also set to invest €43m of working capital and a further €125m building a gas fire power station in Wexford.

SSE already owns Airtricity in Ireland.
