Household charge: Local authorities will have power to bring legal proceedings

Local authorities will have the power to bring legal proceedings against households who haven't paid the household charge, it has been revealed.

That is according to the Household Charge Management Authority - the body responsible for collecting the €100 charge.

Over 670,000 households have yet to pay, while a further 40,000 have paid fines of between €11 and €13 for registration after the March 31 deadline.

Meanwhile, the Local Government Management Agency said it has begun to analyse data to identify those who have yet to register.Home
