Gardaí investigating McCarthy McNamara killing find weapon

Gardaí investigating the murder of a 16-year old shot dead in Dublin on Tuesday night, have recovered what they believe is the murder weapon.

Melanie McCarthy McNamara was shot while sitting in the back seat of a car parked in a residential area of Tallaght.

She died a few hours later in hospital.

Detectives also believe they have found the car driven by the gunman, as well as a balaclava and gloves used in the shooting.

Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan said that he is pleased with the progress that is being made in the case and he is appealing for calm.
