Firefighters continue to battle Kilkenny blaze

The Fire Service is continuing to battle a major blaze at an oil depot in Co Kilkenny this evening.

The incident on the Kilmacow to Waterford Road began shortly before midday when it is believed a truck caught fire.

Local traffic diversions are in place. While the blaze is visible between Junctions 9 and 10 of the nearby M9 motorway, the route is open.

Gardaí at Thomastown say the N9 is closed between Waterford and Mullinavat.

Irish Rail said the line between Kilkenny and Waterford would remain closed with bus transfers in place until tomorrow morning.

Derek Ryan from AA Roadwatch said the smoke was severely affecting visibility in the area and urged drivers to proceed with caution.Home
