The Prison Service is spending €500,000 to supply inmates with clothes and shoes, it emerged today.
Firms have until April 4 to submit tenders for the contract, which includes clothing, footwear and accessories.
Earlier this week, the Prison Service tendered for a €12m contract to feed inmates for the next two years.
The October 2007-October 2009 contract may be extended for a further 12 months when it expires.
The foodstuffs include meat, fish, dairy products, bread, dry goods, cooking oils, fruit and vegetables and frozen foods.
The contract is restricted to sheltered employment workshops.
Irish prisons are located in Portlaoise, Castlerea, Cork, Limerick, Curragh, Midlands, Fort Mitchel, Loughan House and Shelton Abbey.
Five institutions are located in Dublin, Mountjoy, Cloverhill, Wheatfield, Arbour Hill and St Patrick’s Institution.
