Harry Potter's new movie role

Daniel Radcliffe will break out of his Harry Potter mould when he stars as an Australian orphan in his first major role away from the magical saga.

The 15-year-old starts work on December Boys - based on Michael Noonan's novel about four orphans in 1960s Australia - in November, when Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is released in cinemas worldwide.

Radcliffe first shot to fame in 2001 in the first JK Rowling screen smash Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, beating thousands of young hopefuls to the coveted role.
