ASTI recommends rejection of Croke Park II

The Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland has become the latest union to recommend its members reject the new Croke Park deal.

The union, which represents 18,000 teachers, said it was angered by the proposals and felt a more progressive tax system was the best way forward.

ASTI members will now be balloted on the proposed deal.

The campaign 'No 2 Croke Park 2' has welcomed the decision and has called on teachers, lecturers and education workers to attend a rally against the deal in the Gresham Hotel Dublin at 12 noon on Saturday.

Martin Marjoram, Chair of the IT Tallaght TUI Branch said: "The ASTI decision confirms that Croke Park 2 is unacceptable to those who work in education. It represents a serious attack on the pay, pensions and conditions of teachers and lecturers.

"It will place additional burdens on already overloaded teachers and lecturers. It is now vital that the ASTI, TUI and IFUT mount a joint campaign and join with other unions who are calling for a NO Vote in a determined campaign of opposition."Home
