Shakira and Katy Perry among singers in new Unicef version of John Lennon's Imagine

Katy Perry, Shakira and Idris Elba are among many stars who sing in a new version of John Lennon’s Imagine, released in association with Unicef.

The late Beatles star’s widow Yoko Ono gave the global charity the rights to reproduce his hit for its Unicef Imagine project.

The movement was launched on International Children’s Day 2014 and invited people from 140 countries around the world to take part in the new version of the song, which was originally released by Lennon in 1971.

Accompanying the track is a video featuring a number of Unicef goodwill ambassadors and global influencers, as well as people who uploaded their own version using a purpose-built App from far-flung locations such as Antarctica and the International Space Station.

Other celebrities involved include David Guetta, will.i.am, Neymar Jr and Priyanka Chopra.

The video was previously shown to world leaders at the United Nations Summit on Migrants and Refugees at the UN General Assembly Hall in New York.

The global charity’s version of Imagine has been recorded to highlight the 28 million children across the world who have been forced to leave their homes due to conflict.
