John gives Katy his heart (ring)

John Mayer gave Katy Perry a heart-shaped red ruby ring for Valentine's Day.

The 28-year-old 'Part of Me' singer - who split from Russell Brand in December 2011 after 14 months of marriage - was spotted wearing the unique ring on her engagement finger for a romantic dinner at Vincenti in Brentwood, California with her 35-year-old boyfriend on Thursday night but they reportedly have no plans to get engaged anytime soon and the ring was simply a thoughtful gift.

A source close to the couple told HollywoodLife.com: "It was purchased about a week ago in Daniel Gibbings jewellery boutique by John Mayer. It's a one-of-a-kind Daniel Gibbings ring featuring a 12 carat ruby high-dome cabochon heart shaped centre, accented by two teardrop faceted tsavorites and rubies, set in 20 karat gold."

But another source insisted the couple are not ready to get engaged yet. The insider said: "They aren't engaged and I wouldn't anticipate to see them engaged anytime soon."

Daniel Gibbings is a Santa Barbara-based jeweller and John is said to have bought the ring while visiting Katy's parents in the area last week, who are very "comfortable" with him.

The brunette beauty and her singer boyfriend were also joined by her mother and father, Mary and Keith Hudson, for dinner at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills after the Grammy Awards on February 10 and the quartet seemed to enjoy one another's company.

A source previously said: "Katy couldn't have looked happier. She was just beaming with a huge smile on her face. Katy, John and her parents seemed to be celebrating the night. They were laughing a lot and looked really at ease and comfortable with each other.

"They all looked relaxed, especially Katy and John. They were holding hands and when they weren't, John had his arm around Katy. Before they left, John leaned into Katy and gave her a kiss on the forehead - it was cute. And they make a gorgeous looking couple. They really compliment each other."
