This levitating cup is all you need to impress dinner guests

The way to impress guests at your next cocktail party could soon no longer be the drinks you make, but how you serve them – in this instance, levitating.

A new Kickstarter project from Chicago-based start-up Levitating Cup is looking for funding for their specially designed portable base and cups that float above it.

It works thanks to an electromagnet, with one in the base and then another magnet hidden in the cups that cause it to seemingly float in mid-air.

Both a wired and wireless version of the base are being offered on Kickstarter, with just over half the target sum having been raised so far.

As well as cocktail glasses, special cups for beer, coffee and even dessert have been created, with plans in place to create a plate and pillow in the future. If and when funding is reached, the first cups are due to ship in October this year.

The base station and indeed the whole system is even stable enough to be carried around, however the developers do suggest that glasses never be more than half full in order to maintain that stability.
