ISEQ closes slightly up


The ISEQ index of Irish shares closed at 2,693.34 this evening.

This represented an increase of 27.64 points or 1.04%.

It was a mixed day all round, with the major banks following this pattern. AIB and Irish Life & Permanent finished down 5c and 11c respectively, to €1.65 and €3.20. Bank of Ireland, however, was up 1c to €1.54.

Elsewhere, C&C (up 21c to €2.69), Elan (gaining 15c to €5.85) and Irish Continental (adding 20c to close at €10.20) were the big upward movers.

Going in the opposite direction, though, were Paddy Power, which fell 60c to €16.40, Kingspan, down 14c to €3.95, and Smufit, which dropped 14c to €3.61.
