Tsvangirai: 'No deal better than a bad deal'

No deal is better than making a bad deal to share power with Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe, opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai said today.

Tsvangirai made the comments at a celebration marking the ninth anniversary of his Movement for Democratic Change.

The party won the most votes in legislative and presidential elections in March. Mugabe subsequently held a one-man presidential run off and the two sides have been deadlocked in talks over how to share power.

Mugabe is threatening to form his own Cabinet without the opposition party if Tsvangirai does not sign up to the deal. Tsvangirai said it would make him a figurehead prime minister while Mugabe retains all his powers.
