US President George Bush said today he remains confident that both sides in the Mideast peace process can agree on the definition of a Palestinian state by the end of his term next January.

President Bush said he assured Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that a Palestinian state is a high priority for himself and his administration.

He added that he is confident a definition of a Palestinian state can be reached.

The session at the White House today came as Palestinians and Israelis have made only slow progress towards a peace deal.
