Militants killed in Afghanistan clashes
6/28/2008 - 3:47:24 PMThe US-led coalition said 32 militants have died in fighting in southern Afghanistan.
A coalition statement today said insurgents armed with guns and rockets attacked Afghan and coalition forces on patrol on Thursday in Uruzgan province.
It said the troops returned fire and called in airstrikes and 32 insurgents were killed. A 10-year-old boy and two Afghan policemen were wounded.
Fighting between security forces and Islamic militants is flaring across the southern half of the country. According to reports, more than 2,000 people have died in insurgency-related violence so far this year.
