More than 30 Afghan militants killed
16/08/2008 - 15:17:51

More than 30 militants have been killed in three days of battles with coalition forces in southern Afghanistan, officials said.

Militants attacked a coalition and Afghan patrol “numerous times” as they travelled through the Zamto Valley of Kandahar province between Wednesday and Friday.

Officials said the forces returned fire and called in airstrikes from fighter aircraft.

No coalition or Afghan forces were reported injured or killed in the fights.

More than 3,200 people – mostly militants – have been killed in insurgency-related violence this year.
