Afghanistan’s intelligence chief said he warned President Hamid Karzai of the weekend assassination plot against him.Afghanistan’s intelligence chief said he warned President Hamid Karzai of the weekend assassination plot against him.

Amrullah Saleh told Parliament yesterday that the plot to kill Mr Karzai was hatched last month and the gunmen had rented the room they opened fire from 45 days before the attack.

Mr Karzai and other dignitaries escaped unharmed from Sunday’s assault launched during a ceremony in Kabul. Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in which three people died.

Mr Saleh admitted it was a failure of the security services to stop the attack.
