Diplomats to end tour of troubled Tibet 29/03/2008 - 09:22:41
Diplomats are preparing to leave the Tibetan capital after a quick overnight visit in the latest move by China to show it is in control of the region.
The region saw deadly anti-government protests more than two weeks ago.
The diplomats numbered close to two dozen and including ones from the United States, Britain and Japan.
They were allowed into Lhasa as part of efforts to show that protests and anti-Chinese rioting had subsided. They will return to Beijing tonight.
Meanwhile, the official Xinhua News Agency reported today that the families of 18 civilians killed in the protests would get compensation of US$28,000 (€17,724).
It did not mention compensation for four other reported victims.
