Zimbabwe: 200 seek refuge at US embassy 03/07/2008 - 15:12:15
About 200 opposition supporters have sought refuge at the US embassy in Zimbabwe, the US ambassador said today.
James McGee said embassy officials were working with humanitarian organisations to help find them accommodation.
Riot police are at the embassy, as well as people holding small bundles with their possessions. Police have refused to comment.
Opposition leaders say backers of President Robert Mugabe are attacking opposition supporters.
More than 300 opposition supporters who sought refuge at the South African Embassy in Harare last week have been taken to a camp outside the capital.
