Down disappoint in Carrick-On-Shannon
06/04/2008 - 21:04:50

Leitrim 2-7 Down 1-9

Emlyn Mulligan led the charge for Leitrim at Carrick-On-Shannon today as Ross Carr's Down side looked a pale shadow of the team which won the Dr McKenna Cup.

A Mulligan penalty gave the hosts a 1-6 to 1-1 interval lead.

Despite Down staging a concerted comeback with six of the next seven points after the break, a fisted goal from Philip McGuinness saw Leitrim regain the lead.

Down's woes were compounded late on when midfielder Declan Rooney was sent off.
