Indiana aims for Trial triumph 10/05/2008 - 09:27:28
Indiana Gal will face eight rivals when she seeks Group Three honours in the Derrinstown Stud 1000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown on Sunday.
The daughter of Intikhab drops back in trip to a mile after finishing a respectable third behind the well-regarded Chinese White over an extended nine furlongs last weekend.
“We felt she didn’t quite get the trip the last day and the ground was very bad in Gowran,” said County Meath-based trained Pat Martin.
“This trip will probably be her ideal distance and it will be the first time she’s been able to run on decent, good ground for a long time.
“She’s well and we’re looking forward to it but it does look competitive.
“It was a good run last time and with a furlong and a half left to run, we were travelling as well as anything and probably just didn’t get home.
“She’s not in the Irish Guineas and she’ll probably get a little rest after this one – she’s been a good servant and we’d be very happy if we could win a Group Three with her.”
Among the chief opposition is Caribbean Sunset while Katiyra and Toirneach will lock horns again after finishing first and second respectively in a maiden event last August.
Amaranda, Charlotte Bronte, Fikrah, Valentine Hill and the Mick Channon-trained Eva’s Request complete the field.
