Council to switch off lights in energy awareness move

Dublin City Council is due to take part in a worldwide initiative tonight in which unnecessary lights will be switched off for an hour to raise awareness of energy consumption.

The initiative began in Sydney last year and Dublin is the first Irish city to sign up to the event.

As part of the move, the lights underneath bridges over the Liffey will be switched off between 8pm and 9pm along with the lights outside the Mansion House, City Hall, Civic Office and other council buildings.
