HSE 'delaying deal on consultant contract to save money'

The Irish Medical Organisation is accusing the HSE of delaying negotiations on a new consultants' contract in order to save money.

The organisation says it has received a new draft of the contract which could be implemented in a matter of weeks if the HSE was willing to do so.

However, the IMO said last night that the HSE was preventing agreement on the contract in order to delay the recruitment of new consultants for the sake of saving money.

IMO members are due to discuss the details of the draft contract at their AGM in Killarney today before formulating a response to the HSE.
