INO condemns failure to provide new nursing jobs
5/9/2008 - 8:10:02 AMThe Irish Nurses Organisation is expected to call on the Government to intervene in a row with the HSE over jobs for newly qualified nurses.
The organisation is due to debate a motion at its annual conference today condemning the HSE for failing to provide jobs for student nurses.
It says around 1,700 nurses graduate each year, but 70% are forced to emigrate to find work.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Mary Harney is expected to face a frosty reception when she arrives to address the conference today.
She is expected to face tough questions about cut-backs in the health service and the INO's campaign for a 10% pay rise for public-hospital nurses.
