A 15-year-old boy appeared in court today in connection with the violence that broke out in Finglas in Dublin during St Patrick’s Day festivities.
The boy was charged with engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour likely to cause a breach of the peace, at Cardiffsbridge Road, in Finglas, on the evening March 17 last.
Prosecuting Garda Eamon Ryan of Finglas station told Judge William Hamill that the alleged offence related to “a serious public order incident.”
He added that further charges could be brought against the teenager, who was accompanied to court by an adult sibling.
Judge Hamill said parents were legally required to attend their children’s cases.
Defence solicitor Peter Connolly explained that the teen’s mother was “very stressed over this situation today” and also suffered from health problems.
However, he added that the mother would be present on the teen’s next court appearance.
Judge Hamill granted legal aid to the boy and remanded him on bail to appear again in May to enter a plea.
He ordered that a summary of the prosecution’s evidence was to be furnished to the defence and said that if further charges were brought in the mean time they would be covered by this disclosure
He also ordered that a parent was to be in court on the boy’s next appearance.
