Report highlights fall in school drop-out rates
28/03/2008 - 13:49:49

More Irish students are staying in school for longer and completing second level education, according to a report published today by the Department of Education.

The report says 84% of the 60,000 students who entered education in 1999 completed second level, compared with just 81% three years earlier.

However, there is still a significant gender gap between male and female students.

The completion rate for boys in the study was 75.5%, compared to 85.7% for girls.
