Campaign to help families bereaved by suicide launched
27/03/2008 - 07:48:33

A new campaign to highlight the plight of people bereaved by suicide will be launched later today.

Snowdrop pins, which illustrate a symbol of hope, will go on sale nationwide for the charity Console for €3.

The organisation provides a specific form of counselling for people mourning a loved one who took their own life.

Console said it needs to raise vital funds to provide its very specific type of suicide bereavement counselling services.

Around 500 people die from suicide every year in Ireland, more than those killed in road traffic collisions.

The campaign also aims to raise awareness and reduce the stigma associated with suicide.
