Polls back policing powers transfer in the North
22/02/2008 - 10:25:25

More than half of DUP supporters back the transfer of policing and justice powers to the Northern Assembly by May, according to an opinion poll published today.

The DUP is promising to veto any such move, saying it does not want these powers transferred from London to Stormont until unionists have more confidence in Sinn Féin's commitment to law and order.

53% of respondents to today's poll say they want the move to go ahead by the target date of this May.

However, support is actually higher among DUP voters, with 55% saying the back the May deadline and 5% saying the move should happen sooner.
