Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has rejected claims that his difficulties at the Mahon Tribunal are having a negative effect on Fianna Fáil's campaign for a Yes vote in the Lisbon Treaty referendum.
Mr Ahern was speaking at a function in the Drumcondra area of Dublin this morning.
He said it was "nonsense" to suggest that his latest tribunal evidence was hampering Fianna Fáil's campaign and he had experienced no negativity on the doorsteps.
Mr Ahern also said the Lisbon Treaty was simply designed to make the EU more efficient and would have no adverse consequences for Ireland.
