Two arrested in connection with St Stephens Day murder 13/05/2008 - 09:10:25
Two men were arrested today by detectives investigating the murder of a young man near his home last Christmas.
The pair are being questioned about the fatal stabbing of Barry Maguire, 23, on the Milltown estate in Ashbourne, Co Meath.
The carpenter, from Deerpark in the town, had been out with friends in the early hours of St Stephen’s Day when he was attacked.
Investigating officers said they arrested two men in their early 20s this morning at Ashbourne and Lusk, north Co Dublin.
Both are being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Drogheda and Balbriggan Garda stations.
Mr Maguire was found collapsed on a road in the Milltown estate at around 4.15am on December 26 by gardaí responding to a complaint about a disturbance.
He was taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown, where he later died from a single stab wound.
The row was thought to have been between two groups of young men.
Another man was also injured but later recovered in hospital.
An 18-year-old man arrested shortly after the killing on suspicion of withholding information was later released without charge.
