Talks avert nursing walkout at Central Mental Hospital
08/05/2008 - 10:40:27

Nurses at the Central Mental Hospital are carrying out their duties as normal this morning despite threatening a walkout due to unsafe staffing levels.

The nurses had threatened to refuse to work if the hospital could not reassure them about safe staffing levels.

The situation arose due an ongoing overtime ban by members of SIPTU and the Psychiatric Nurses Association.

The unions met with the clinical director of the hospital this morning, but say they still fear there will not be enough nurses to cover shifts from 5pm this evening.
