Hanafin moved from Education to Social and Family Affairs

Minister Mary Hanafin has moved from her beloved Education portfolio to the Department of Social and Family Affairs, it has emerged from government buildings.

Cork north-west TD Batt O'Keeffe is understood to have replaced Minister Hanafin in the heavyweight Education portfolio.

Pat Carey is understood to have been appointed Chief Whip and Mary Coughlan is thought to have been promoted to the position of Tánaiste.

Taoiseach Brian Cowen is set to reveal the full line-up of his new Cabinet shortly.
