French president Nicolas Sarkozy says he plans to visit Ireland next month to discuss the EU response to Ireland's rejection of the Lisbon Treaty.
France takes over the EU presidency on July 1.
Speaking last night at the EU summit in Brussels, Mr Sarkozy refused to be drawn on what he believed the Government should do in response to the Lisbon vote.
However, he insisted the expansion of the EU could not continue without the reforms included in the treaty.
