Three-quarters of young voters rejected Lisbon Treaty: Poll 20/06/2008 - 07:50:44
A European Commission poll has reportedly found that three-quarters of young voters were against the Lisbon Treaty in last week's referendum.
Reports this morning say 22% of 'No' voters cited a lack of understanding as their reason for rejecting the treaty.
There were several other reasons, however, including tax and neutrality issues, the loss of Irish identity and a lack of trust in politicians.
Three-quarters of 'No' voters said they expected the Lisbon Treaty to be renegotiated as a result of their vote.
Almost nine-in-10 respondents said they supported Ireland's membership of the EU, including 80% of people who voted 'No'.
