Ahern knew about sterling lodgements before secretary's testimony
04/06/2008 - 15:29:36

Bertie Ahern has told the Mahon Tribunal that although he learned that some lodgements to his bank accounts were in sterling before his former secretary took the stand, he did not contact her to tell her.

In March, under questioning and in the face of documentation provided by the bank, Grainne Carruth accepted that she had lodged sterling to Mr Ahern's Irish Permanent Building Society accounts in Drumcondra in 1994.

Ms Carruth was reduced to tears on the stand.

Today Bertie Ahern told Tribunal counsel that he did not contact her prior to her appearance because he was busy.
