Union urges 'No' vote in referendum
06/05/2008 - 10:33:49

The Technical Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU) has today urged its membership of more than 45,000 workers to vote against the Lisbon Treaty.

Speaking in the wake of the TEEU announcement, UCD academic and spokesperson for the ‘No’ campaign Kieran Allen said: "The fact that yet another major trade union has called for a No vote against the Lisbon Treaty shows a growing awareness among workers about the dangers posed to their pay and conditions by the Lisbon Treaty.

"Recent judgements in the European Court like the Laval Case show that the European Union is taking a sharp Neo-Liberal turn.

"We in Ireland have the chance to stand up for the citizens of every single member State when we go the polls on June 12.

"A ‘No’ vote in Ireland will represent a clear defeat for the pro-militarisation and neo-liberal agenda of the European Union and the Irish Government."
