Burke denies requesting IR£500,000 for Bertie Ahern
01/05/2008 - 12:12:26

The TaoiseachThe Taoiseach's close friend Joe Burke has denied claims that he requested IR£500,000 for Bertie Ahern in 1990.

Property developer Tom Gilmartin has claimed Mr Burke made the request during a meeting in Dublin in September 1990.

He said the chairman of Dublin Port Company sought IR£500,000 for Mr Ahern in return for raising a planning motion at Dublin City Council.

However, Mr Burke denied the claim at the Mahon Tribunal today, describing it as "outrageous".
