Constantly gripping 'The Dark Knight' a triumph 24/07/2008 - 20:14:43
Director: Christopher Nolan
Cast: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart
Cert: 15
The Batman movies get better with each offering, and with this excellent outing they have become a great deal darker - though no less gripping.
Much attention has been given to the performance of Ledger as The Joker, completed just before his tragic death of a drug overdose in January.
There is already talk of an Oscar, but Bale remains quite the best of the Gotham City heroes.
The film itself, spectacular to look at and constantly gripping, goes much deeper into the characters than anything previously seen, however grotesque and OTT they might be, and the film is all the better for it.
The first film without Batman in the title is a triumph.
Star Rating: 5/5
