FG, Labour 'oppose Lisbon re-run during Euro vote'

The opposition is reportedly rejecting the idea of re-running the Lisbon Treaty referendum on the same day as next yearThe Opposition is reportedly rejecting the idea of re-running the Lisbon Treaty referendum on the same day as next year's local and European elections.

Reports this morning say French president Nicolas Sarkozy made the suggestion during a private meeting with Taoiseach Brian Cowen on Monday.

However, reports this morning say Fine Gael and Labour are both rejecting the idea on the grounds that it would cause "mayhem" for politicians and local councillors.
